ANOR PARTICIPATE IN A CONSULTATION WORKSHOP ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) OF INDUSTRIES IN THE MINING SECTOR

Under the distinguish patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cameroon,  was held on the 26th, 27th and 28th October 2016 at  hotel la Falaise in Yaoundé, a consultation workshop to  dialogue on Corporate Social Responsibility in the mining industries.

The workshop follows the setting up by the International Francophone Organization (OIF) and the French Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD), a program for 2016-2020to organize regional consultations on corporate social responsibility of the extractive industries in the West and Central African regions.

In his address, Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (MINMIDT) reiterated the importance of corporate social responsibility within the mining sector in particular and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in general.

For three days of brainstorming, it was all about creating a forum for dialogue between participants to share best practices and reflect on common challenges related to developing sustainable extractive industry.

On the agenda of the consultation were 19 presentations and 04 workshops dealing with the following topics :

  • Legal and regulatory instruments;
  • Mining contracts;
  • Service delivery channels;
  • Partnerships and transversal synergies.

ANOR presentations were focused on two themes :

  • "The standard approach in the mining sector" by Mr. ZIBI ZIBI Francis Noël, Senior Employee and Focal point in charge of technical committees.
  • "The project Women and Standardization of Réseau de Normalisation et Francophonie “by Ms. BELECK à KOUNG Gisèle, Focal point in charge of technical committees and specifically on the project “Femme et Normalisation du RNF”.

ANOR’s intervention was to demonstrate the importance of standards in the mining sector on the one hand and in the other hand, introduce the program to accompany women master standard tools so they are competitive in the services that this industry offers.

The ultimate results of these consultative workshops for the period 2016-2020 will be; the implementation of an extensive training program, promotion and communication on corporate social responsibility. Pioneer pilot projects will also be identified and funded.
